It’s a DUM new era!
2021 marks the 10 year anniversary of DUM DUM Zine.
For the past decade we’ve published hundreds of voices of some of the most out-there stuff we’ve ever encountered. We’ve produced seven print issues, hosted countless shows, panels, readings, festivals, podcasts, and public community art projects. You name it, we’ve done it.
That we began this publication in the midst of a recession is quite telling. Everything we’ve ever done or published has stemmed from a deep desire to create community, reinvent the wheel, and provide a platform for experimental works that could not otherwise find a home. We’ve transformed formats with each issue, each iteration, ever-changing, ever-transcending. And after such a life-altering event global pandemic, we feel like in many ways we’re only just beginning.
That’s why it is with this same ethos that we launch our music imprint, Dum Dum Records.
Our first record is out this Friday, November 5th. It’s an ambient soundbath album by Taleen Kali called Songs For Meditation. The album was recorded in a single sitting by Grant Capes inside a warehouse space after the band got vaccinated in April of 2021. It features crystal singing bowls in the keys of D, F, A, as well as harmonium played by Kali. Bass drone and synths come courtesy of long-time friend, bandmate, and collaborator Miles Marsico (TÜLIPS, New Technology). Give it a warm welcome.
This is only the beginning.
Dum Dum Records supports music that pushes the limits of what we think music should sound like, music that wants to stretch out into different mediums, and music that’s about music–the sky’s the limit. We currently have a full roster, but are always interested in listening to your demos.
